Julie has been based at Ninegates Farm since 1993.

Prior to this, Julie had evented up to intermediate level and showed to county level, until she relocated, with her husband, to Texas, USA. Whilst here she was issued with the first training visa given to a British citizen. This enabled her to work and train with Paul Kathen of Tex-over Farms. Whilst working for Tex-over, Julie became their Barn Manager, running a section of the Great Southwest Equestrian Centre in Houston The centre had 350 stables split into sections catering for Polo, Arabian showing, Hunter Jumpers, Dressage and Western riding together with a riding school. As Barn Manager Julie controlled a section 52 Liveries plus a riding school that had up to 194 students and 5 instructors. Julie also competed for owners having up to 10 horses in training.

On Returning to England Julie was based in Berkshire and used this time to train with Jennie Loristan-Clark, and to gain her BHS AI. She then moved to Yorkshire and the purchase of Ninegates Farm. She continued to ride and train gaining her Intermediate Stable Managers Certificate and competed in Eventing and Dressage with a focus on Dressage.

In 2000 a bad fall from a horse left Julie with severe injuries with little prospect of walking or riding unaided again. However, whilst in a wheelchair she still continued to teach at many levels, the highest being a rider preparing for Badminton Horse Trials.

By 2003 Julie was able to ride and compete again, qualifying horses for both winter and summer regional finals for dressage. With Mike Boyce's Nyelamer, Julie won Wikefield Elementary Open Championship.

Julie has now become a pyramid trainer with British Dressage and taken on the role as trainer for the Yorkshire fledglings and under 21's. The group produced two musical rides which were shown at the Fry's CDI 2004 with 10 children in both groups. In 2005 Julie took over as Organiser and trainer of the Yorkshire group which resulted in some of her pupils competing at the National Championships with huge success. As a result, she was named as Regional Trainer of the Year for 2005.

Julie's pupils have competed at all levels in Eventing, Show Jumping and Dressage through to Advanced, and are currently showing at all levels.
